Our Best Answer: How and when will I receive my Foundation scholarship?

Receiving Your Foundation Scholarship

Once you have submitted your Foundation scholarship application, in most cases, you should expect to be notified within 3 to 6 weeks after the beginning of the semester in which you applied regarding your eligibility. Letters of notification are sent via student email and My LaGuardia page to all applicants whether or not they receive a scholarship. As soon as you receive your award notification, you should follow the acceptance instructions to accept your award.

If you've been awarded a scholarship, the amount will be credited directly to your tuition in CUNYfirst. If your award doesn't cover your entire tuition, please subtract your pending award amount from the amount you owe and pay the balance by the tuition due date indicated on CUNYfirst (You won't be dropped from your registered classes before your award is applied to your tuition).

If your award exceeds the amount of your tuition, a refund will be issued to you either in the form of a check mailed to the address on file in CUNYfirst or a credit to your Student Direct Deposit account after the College has verified that you're enrolled in classes and meeting scholarship requirements (see below).

Scholarship recipients will be required to:

  • Attend a scholarship orientation once per academic year.
  • Submit a thank you letter to their donor. In order to complete the scholarship acceptance process, a thank you note to the donor is required. Get tips on how to write your Thank You letter.
  • Possibly attend Foundation events and participate in College and Foundation marketing efforts. Recipients will be notified in advance.
  • Be enrolled full-time (12 credits or the equivalent) or part-time with Intent to Graduate registered.
  • Show financial need.
  • Register for classes at LaGuardia Community College and remain enrolled through Financial Aid Certification date.
  • Be in good academic standing with a GPA of 2.0+
  • Participate in College or community service.

If you graduate during the current academic year or if the funds become unavailable, the Foundation reserves the right to withdraw this award.
