High School Equivalency (HSE, formerly GED) Preparation Classes

LaGuardia Community College offers many free and tuition-based programs to serve the needs of students who have not finished high school, including adults, the Deaf and Hearing Impaired, out-of-school youth, and Veterans.

For all HSE program information, please visit room C400 or contact Adult Basic Skills at (718) 482-5385 or apply here.

In order to earn a New York State High School Equivalency (HSE) Diploma, you need to pass the TASC (Test Assessing Secondary Completion). The new TASC replaces the GED exam. LaGuardia is also an official testing center, administering the TASC on a regular basis. For more information on TASC, please see our FAQ.

The courses prepare you to take the TASC in either English or Spanish. The TASC is going to measure your ability to read closely, respond to texts, solve problems in math and science and think critically about issues in social studies. You need to have strong reading, writing and math skills to pass the test. The actual test content measures your skills and knowledge in these areas: Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies and Science.
