Our Best Answer: Do you have a Work-Study Program?

Work-Study Program

Federal Work-Study (FWS) at LaGuardia is a program that offers students the opportunity to work part-time, on-campus or off-campus, to help pay for the costs of their education. Educational expenses go beyond tuition and fees, and earnings from an FWS job can be used to finance these other expenses such as books and supplies or travel expenses.

Eligibility: Students eligible to participate in this program must have a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file. To be eligible for Federal Work-Study you must:

  • be matriculated and enrolled at least half-time (6 credits or more);
  • be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident alien or other eligible classifications of non-citizen;
  • be in good academic standing at the college and maintain satisfactory progress according to federal guidelines and
  • demonstrate financial need.

Award Notification: You're notified through your financial aid award letter if you were awarded work study. If you've never participated in the program, you'll be required to complete a work study orientation. Once you complete the orientation, you may search for a job on campus, off campus or through the Public Service Corps.

Job Listings are available online. You're advised to reach out to departments you're interested in to inquire about job openings. If your supervisor agrees to the internship agreement, you may use your work study job to fulfill your internship requirement. It's up to the internship department to approve your assignment. Once you've been hired, you may complete the work study agreement packet. Include the job supervisor's signature and your identification to fulfill the Employment Eligibility Verification USCIS I-9 form in your completed packet and return to Student Financial Services, Room C113. Allow 3 days for processing before starting work.

Hours and Pay: You're allowed to work up to 20 hours a week until you've earned your award amount. The current pay rate for on- and off-campus jobs is $15.00 per hour effective 2023-2024. Public Service Corps positions have a range of pay rate according to the student?s academic level. You're paid bi-weekly; these earnings aren't credited to your tuition and are subject to federal and state income tax.
