Our Best Answer: Can I get transfer credit for courses from online educational companies?

Accreditation of Online Institutions

Any course or credential that does not have an established credit equivalency will need to go through an evaluation process through the Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) office. The office works with the CPL Faculty Coordinator who works with the academic departments to determine if your credential equates to a course. In order to bring this is as prior learning credit, the credential has to fulfill a requirement for your current degree program.

In the United States, postsecondary institutions must be accredited by one of the following regional accrediting bodies in order for LaGuardia, or any CUNY school, to accept these schools for purposes of admissions:

  • Middle States Commission on Higher Education
  • New England Association of Schools and Colleges?Commission on Institutions of Higher Education
  • Southern Association of Colleges and Schools?Commission on Colleges
  • Western Association of Schools and Colleges
  • Higher Learning Commission?Prior to 2014, this was a branch of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The North Central Association has been dissolved, and the Higher Learning Commission remains a legitimate regional accrediting body.
  • The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities
  • The New York State Board of Regents
