Our Best Answer: How do I apply for financial aid?

Applying for Financial Aid

To apply for financial aid to assist with your tuition and expenses at LaGuardia,

  1. Gather financial information
  2. Apply for an FSA ID
  3. Complete the FAFSA
  4. IRS Data Retrieval Tool : This allows applicants and their parents who've already filed their federal income tax returns to prefill the answers to some questions on the FAFSA by transferring data from their federal income tax returns. This may also reduce the chance that you will be selected for verification.
  5. Link to Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) on the Web from your FAFSA application
  6. Receive a Student Aid Report (SAR)
  7. Verify your data, when sent request
  8. Receive your financial aid award notification

You do not need to have been accepted to the college to apply for financial aid. You can apply any time after October 1, but try to start the process early to allow time to submit additional documents if necessary. Also you must reapply for financial aid every academic year (Fall/Spring). If your financial circumstances change, you may get more or less aid. Renewal of your financial aid package also depends on making satisfactory academic progress toward a degree, such as earning a minimum number of credits and achieving a minimum GPA.
